Serious injuries from motorized scooters are on pace to break last year’s record mark, government safety officials say.
Through the first seven months of this year, 2,250 people have gone to hospital emergency rooms with injuries suffered in wrecks on motorized scooters, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). At least three people have died on the vehicles.

The Arthritis Foundation recommends performing range-of-motion exercises to help keep your joints flexible and reduce stiffness. Range of motion is the normal amount your joints can move in certain directions. Typical daily activities such as housework, climbing stairs and bathing do not move your joints through their full range of motion and are not a substitute for range-of-motion exercises. Read more »

The CSPI or Center for Science in the Public Interest has petitioned the U.S. FDA to require food producers to add information on the amount of added sugars in their products to the nutrition facts label. Increasing label information is a good idea — if it proves to be useful information.

Members with high cholesterol levels will benefit from a recent report showing that regular consumption of walnuts can help to lower cholesterol levels. The study compared the effects of a typical Mediterranean diet (containing an abundance of fruits, vegetables, olive oil and nuts, but few meats and dairy products) and a modified Mediterranean diet that substituted walnuts for some olive oil and other fatty foods. Participants, 49 men and women with high LDL cholesterol levels, were divided into either the Mediterranean or the walnut diet groups for a six-week period. Read more »
