In 2010, 80% of US counties saw no cases of the bacterial infection, and the overall rate of new syphilis cases declined nearly 10% from 1999. Last year, there were 2.2 cases of syphilis reported for every 100,000 Americans. The 1999 figure was 2.4 cases per 100,000 people, according to the Atlanta, Georgia-based CDC. Read more »
