Count servings to reduce calories
Despite your care in counting calories, your weight may be stable but higher than you want it to be. Often times, counting food servings rather than calories may help further reduce caloric intake. The Food Guide Pyramid is an excellent guide to use. Although not all foods within a given food group are equal in calories, overall they average about the same per serving. For example, a serving from the bread, cereal, rice, and pasta group averages about 100 calories, but some servings from this group may be as low as 60 calories. It is better to assume a higher calorie count.
